On Friday 16th June, Hendon Leisure Centre hosted their 2nd annual GLL Sport Foundation (GSF) Awards evening to celebrate the sporting success of Barnet’s young talent. 21 Barnet athletes were presented with certificates and t-shirts on the night. GLL Barnet will be supporting 59 athletes through 2017/18 with £32,850 in cash, training and sport science support.
Over 50 people attended including representatives from Barnet Council, Cllr Lisa Rutter and Cassie Bridger (Strategic Lead, Sport & Physical Activity) alongside Mel Parker, Middlesex University’s Head of Sport and Recreation.
21 GSF athletes all signed GSF t-shirts which were given to the Council and Middlesex University. There were also three fantastic showcases from Hendon Gymnastics Club’s Acro and Rhythmic squads which really added to the evening.
The athlete panel consisted of Barnet’s Legacy ambassador, Justine Levene and 4 promising athletes including Sophia and Curtis Elton, Laura Hirai and Gaurika Singh. It was inspiring for the younger generation of athletes to hear the stories of more experienced athletes further up the pathway.
We look forward to supporting Barnet athletes again this year.
