April was a very successful month for athletes, particularly in the sport of Boxing, where two of our supported athletes won their national titles.
Cherrelle Brown from Islington has been a GLL Sport Foundation supported athlete for a number of years and uses her local facilities to help with her training. Last month Cherrelle won the national title for the third time, adding to her medal collection. Cherrelle aims to go to the Olympics and is hoping that her weight category will be added, so she can make this dream a reality. As an athlete at the top of her game, we hope this will be possible in Tokyo 2020, with a weight category to be added.
Moving back to the younger generation, Morgan Ansell travelled up to Liverpool for the Junior Elite National Finals last month. She was against her long time rival and it is normally a very close bout. Last weekend however Morgan came in prepared and fought really well against her to win her second national title.
Junior boxers can only with the Junior Elite National title twice, so for Morgan to have achieved this is something her family are really proud of, as are we.
Congratulations to Cherrelle and Morgan for flying the flag for female boxing. It’s great to see such success from a junior and senior athlete.
