GLL was proud to partner up with the Reigate & Banstead District Sport Council to present the GLL Sport Foundation at the local awards evening.
The awards night is an annual event celebrating the sporting talent of Reigate and Banstead including coaches, volunteers, teams and individuals. Every year GLL is a key sponsor and gives out an award, but this year the GLL Sport Foundation was also showcased. GLL Sport Foundation athletes were invited to attend the awards, their 2016 achievements were celebrated and each athlete received a certificate and a piece of kit.
Over 100 local people attended the awards evening held at the Old Reigatians Rugby Club in Reigate. There was a 20 minute presentation on the GLL Sport Foundation showing how the programme helps local athletes and how much it’s grown since it was born in 2008. An athlete Q&A session was held with Paralympian Tania Nadarajah and local GB 400m hurdler Jacob Paul. This went down extremely well, particularly around Tania’s Rio Paralympic experience. Athletes have since written in that they were inspired by the evening and thanking the foundation for their support.
The Mayor and Mayoress were present and commented how inspiring it was to hear from the athletes and really added something extra to the evening. 12 GLL Sports Foundation athletes attended the evening and all gave positive feedback.
Thanks to GLL Community Sport Manager, Laura Mangan who helped to organise a fantastic evening which highlighted GLL’s charitable social enterprise status. Partnering up with the sports council strengthened the relationship and we hope to continue working with Reigate & Banstead in the future as there are lots of talented athletes in the area that we would like to support.
