In order to launch the new partnership, a sports injury workshop was held at Crystal Palace National Sport Centre on Thursday 29th October. 6 Athletes supported by the Foundation and a few coaches attended including; Emeka Udechuku, Dwayne Grant, Joe Berth-Jones, Adam Brett (Athletics), Jo Calvino (Weightlifting), Emma Briton (Trampolining), and Lucus Taylor and coach Christian Coombs (Tennis). They were offered a range of free treatments including physiotherapy, massage and expert advice on injury prevention, nutrition and biomechanics.
Stuart Patterson, Director of the Crystal Palace Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Centre commented, "The workshop was designed to aid athletes training preparation and rehabilitation from injury. The stresses and strains placed on an athlete's body during competition can be extreme. We work to teach specific training techniques that can assist in injury prevention and help maximise sporting performance."
Jo Calvino welcomed this support "as an athlete knowing that you not only have financial support from GLL Sports Foundation but that they are also actively working and creating partnerships to help athletes be the best in all aspects of their sporting performance is a fantastic opportunity for new or experienced athletes". Peter Bundey, GLL Sport Foundation Chair added; "We are delighted that the Crystal Palace Sports Injury Centre has come on board as a sponsor of the Foundation. Its involvement will enable us to do even more to support talented young athletes in the run up to the 2012 London Games."
The workshop will be the first of 4 to be scheduled over the next 12 months, all of which will be open to GLL Sport Foundation supported athletes representing over 40 Olympic and Paraylmpic sporting disciplines.
