GLL are holding open days at many of their centres on the weekend of the 23rd-24th July in order to drum up the excitement for Rio, and also inspire the younger generation to become more active. GLL have teamed up with I Am Team GB and ITV to promote this event and encourage as many people to take part as possible.
All open days are different depending on the centre, but will be similar in the fact that all events will be free, fun and active! Britannia Leisure Centre is hosting a number of activities including:
- Karate workshop 11-1pm
- Multi sports athletics circuit 2-3pm
We are delighted to announce that three GLL Sport Foundation athletes will be in attendance to the Britannia Open Day.
Margaret Adeoye has been selected to represent Team GB in the 4x400m Relay out in Rio and has been kind enough to take some time off her busy training schedule to attend the event this Sunday. Margaret will be attending the afternoons session from 2pm along with Noah Williams, Junior GB Diver where they will present the medals to the winners of the athletics competition and have a chance to speak to the younger generation about their sports and athlete lifestyles.
JJ Jegede will also be attending from 12-1pm. JJ is a Great Britain long jumper who has competed in the Commonwealth Games and European Championships coming very close to medalling in both. He will be doing a Q&A session, with lots of experience competing on the international circuit it will be fantastic opportunity for the younger generation to be inspired.
Whether you’re around for the whole day, or just want to drop in for an hour, these open days are a great opportunity to try something new, or continue practising an activity you already play. It can be a family occasion, or people can come on their own – a great chance to meet new people! Whatever your age, there is something for everyone at these open days.
