Recent athletes success

It has been a very busy few months for us at GSF, but our athletes have been busy too achieving some incredible things! Here are some of our recent athlete successes.

First of all we would like to congratulate Kirk Garvey won his English Title fight at York Hall on Saturday 2nd March by majority decision and is now English Light-heavyweight Champion!

Zoe Smith succeeded in all three lifts in clean and jerk – 122, 126 and 128kg – to take bronze overall in the women’s -64kg category at the European Weightlifting Championships.

16 year old Nathaniel O’Dwyer who has been med in Wales U18 Field Hockey Team to play Scotland in Easter Series!

Our GSF divers had a fantastic British Elite Junior Diving Championships 2019.

Tyler Humphreys came 3rd in the Group A Boys 1m final to win Bronze. Ben Cutmore also took home a bronze in the 10m Platform.

Jack Jefford secured Silver in the 2m event while Desharne Bent-Ashmeil won the Gold in the girls 3m.

Josie Zillig came 2nd in the Girls 10m Platform getting the Silver.

Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix won 10m platform Gold and the Group B Girls 1m Bronze

Hannah Newbrook Group had a very good few days winning the Group C 1m Bronze, the 10M platform Silver & Girls 10m Platform Synchro Silver alongside partner Maisie Bond, with Josie Zillig & Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix winning the Gold!

Joe Appiah competed in the World Masters Athletics championships in Torun, Poland.

He took bronze in the M45 Long Jump with a jump of 6.26m. This was followed by the 60m hurdles on Friday where Joe won the final with a time of 8.31secs, equalling his British and European Record.  Great work Joe.
