School Games 2017

Medal count in double figures for GLL Sport Foundation supported athletes at the School Games

The 2017 School Games took place at Loughborough University from 31st August-3rd September. The School Games is as close as you can get to a ‘mini Olympics’ at school age and gives young athletes a taste of what a large scale multi sport competition is like.

The event seeks to create an inspirational and motivational setting that not only provides elite young sports people with the opportunity to thrive and perform at the highest levels, but encourages more young people to take part and succeed in sport.

Competition is held in a total of eleven current and future Olympic and Paralympic sports: Athletics, Cycling, Fencing, Hockey, Judo, Rugby Sevens, Swimming, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Wheelchair Basketball and Wheelchair Tennis, with the 12th sport being Girls Cricket as a demonstration sport for 2017. There will be disability events in seven of these sports: Athletics, Fencing, Swimming, Table Tennis, Cycling, Wheelchair Basketball and Wheelchair Tennis.

Many GLL Sport Foundation athletes were selected to compete and the results are in! Supported athletes won a total of 11 medals (that we know of!), which is a fantastic result. If we have missed you off, please let us know – gllsportfoundation@gll.org
