GLL Sport Foundation supported tennis star Emily Appleton has had another great month. In October, Emily travelled to the Far East to play a $10k Women’s Pro event in Jakarta and the Osaka Mayors Cup – World Super Junior Championships in Japan.
In Jakarta, Emily reached the last 16 in the singles, losing out to the eventual Finalist, Jessie Rompies from Indonesia. In the doubles however, she partnered up with Rishika Sunkara of India and they managed to reach the semi finals, losing in the third set breaker to the eventual title winners, Rompies and Gumulya.
Onto Japan and back to the Junior Circuit, Emily played some great tennis and once again reached the last 16 of the singles, losing to Japan’s, Natsumi Shioya. Some interesting line calls were witnessed and experienced when playing the local girls but overall the tournament was splendidly organised and very friendly.
In the doubles, Emily partnered up with Anastasia Potapova and they played some outstanding matches, reaching the Final but narrowly losing out to Lee (Taipai) and Wang (China), 4-6 5-7 in a closely contested match. This tournament should however take Emily’s junior world ranking to around 21 – which is remarkable considering she started the year at 303.
At the end of this month, Emily plays a match for the All England Club against the Fitzwilliam Club in Dublin before heading off again for further $10k and Junior events across the Pond.
