GSF supported swimmer Jacob Greenow swims a successful summer
Jacob Greenow is a GLL Sport Foundation supported swimmer. He has sent us an update of his achievements this year so far.
This summer I have been to both European juniors, and British nationals, so here is a report:
European Juniors:
Following selection, after the British championships in April, at the end of June, I travelled to Netanya, Israel with British Swimming for the European Junior Swimming Championships. I competed in 4 events, the 200 and 400 individual medley, as well as the 200 breaststroke and backstroke.
I made the semi-finals in both 200 breaststroke and 200 backstroke, swimming a large personal best in the breaststroke. In the 400 IM I made the final, finishing 6th overall.
In the 200 IM I was 11th in the heats, however I could not progress to the semi-final, as only two per nation can qualify.
Summer Nationals:
At the end of July, I travelled to Sheffield for the British summer nationals. I had qualified in 7 events but chose to compete in 4.
I made finals in all 4 events, winning two gold medals, and a silver in the 17/18 years category.
I won gold medals in both the 200 and 400 individual medleys, swimming personal best times in both races. The silver came in the 200 breaststroke, again, in a personal best time. In my final event, the 200 backstroke, I was 5th.
Thank you for your support this year, it has helped me through one of my most successful years in the pool so far. Hopefully I can carry the form forwards into next season, when I change coach and programme at university and move onto senior swimming. I will keep you up to date next year as I prepare to head into English championships in December.
