Katie has many achievements to date. She has been synchronised swimming from a young age, and won the Junior Trials in 2008 at the age of 14. In addition, she placed 9th in the Free Team final at the 2011 World Championships.
Katie also competed at the Olympics 4 years ago, coming 6th in the London 2012 Olympic final. She is very proud of qualifying Great Britain a quota place for the Rio 2016 Olympics and being selected as 1 of the 2 athletes to go.
Katie is supported by SportsAid in partnership with the GLL Sport Foundation and we are very proud to be supporting her on the Road to Rio.
“Due to being an individually unfunded athlete, GLL has really helped me to be able to continue my journey on the Road to Rio. I have been able to use my local facilities to train, and have been able to have access to sports massages and physio for recovery which has been a great help. Many thanks to everyone involved with the programme and helping out all of the athletes, I, and I know a lot of others really appreciate the support!”
This year, Katie has participated in many competitions in the build up to the Olympics. These include the German and French Opens in February, the Rio Olympic Qualification Tournament in March and the European Championships in London. Katie and her team made all finals in each event, and her next competition coming up this week is the US Open in California, which is the last competition before the Rio Olympics in August.
Katie’s goal for the year is to do the best performance possible in the Olympic Games, and to inspire the next generation of synchronised swimmers to achieve their full potential.
