29 Past and Present GLL Sport Foundation athletes set to compete at Birmingham 2026 European Athletics Championships

GLL Sport Foundation (GSF) is proud to celebrate 29 past and present GSF-supported athletes who will represent Team GB at the Birmingham 2026 European Athletics Championships this week. Taking place from 10–16 August at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium, the Championships will bring together Europe’s leading athletes for a week of world-class athletics on home soil. It is the first time the European Athletics Championships have been held in the UK.

The impressive GSF contingent features athletes competing across sprints, middle-distance, long-distance, hurdles, field events, marathon and relay disciplines, demonstrating the breadth of talent that has been supported through the Foundation over the years.

Among the sprint contingent are GSF athlete Romell Glave and alumni Jeremiah Azu, who will compete in the men's 100m. Romell heads to Birmingham in excellent form after winning the British 100m title earlier this summer.

Dina Asher-Smith, a GSF Alumni athlete, will compete in both the women's 100m and 200m. She will be joined in the women's 100m by National Ambassador Daryll Neita and Ambassador Imani-Lara Lansiquot.

Success Eduan will represent Team GB in the women's 200m, while alumni Amber Anning, will compete in the women's 400m.

There is also plenty of experience among the middle-distance and endurance athletes. Alex Botterill will compete in the men's 800m, Jake Heyward in the 1500m and Joe Wigfield and Scott Beattie in the 10,000m. Will Battershill will take on the men's 3000m steeplechase, while Mahamed Mahamed and Clara Evans-Graham will compete in the marathon.

In the women's endurance events, Erin Wallace will race over 800m and Hannah Nuttall will contest the 5000m.

The hurdles will see a strong GSF presence, with Sam Bennett competing in the men's 110m hurdles, while Jake Minshull and Josh Faulds will line up in the men's 400m hurdles. In the women's hurdles, alumni Marcia Sey, and Emma Nwofor will compete in the 100m hurdles. Alumni Lina Nielsen, will represent Team GB in the 400m hurdles.

The relays will provide further opportunities for GSF athletes to shine, with Sam Lunt and Sam Reardon selected for the men's 4x400m relay, while Kristal Ama-Awuah and Laviai Nielsen are part of the women's 4x100m and 4x400m squads respectively.

GSF alumni athletes will also be competing across the field events, with Scott Lincoln taking on the men's shot put, Lucy Hadaway competing in the women's long jump and Charlotte Payne in the women's hammer throw.
