The World Athletics Championships in Tokyo continue to showcase incredible performances from GLL Sport Foundation (GSF) past and present supported athletes, with impressive performances so far and plenty more to look forward to in the days ahead.
Day 3
Rising star Tyri Donovan (Epsom & Ewell) made a dream debut for Great Britain & Northern Ireland, delivering a sensational run in the men’s 400m hurdles. On his first outing in the GB & NI vest, Tyri stormed to a personal best of 48.26s, securing automatic qualification for the semi-finals with an impressive second-place finish in his heat.
In the women’s 400m hurdles, Alumni Lina Nielsen (Waltham Forest) battled hard but finished sixth in her heat, missing out on progression.
Day 4
GSF alumni Amber Anning (Tower Hamlets) lit up the track in the women’s 400m semi-finals, clocking a season’s best 49.38s to secure her spot in the final. Amber’s run was just nine-hundredths shy of her own national record and highlighted her strong championship form. She will now line up in Thursday’s final with a medal firmly in her sights.
Ambassador Victoria Ohuruogu (Newham) also featured in the semi-finals but bowed out after clocking 51.65s. In the men’s 400m, alumni Samuel Reardon (Crystal Palace) gave everything in a competitive semi-final, finishing in 45.10s and narrowly missing a place in the final.
Day 5
It was another exciting day on the track as GSF athletes continued to impress. In the women’s 200m heats, National Ambassador Daryll Neita (Greenwich) secured safe passage to the semi-finals with a composed run of 22.59s, finishing third in her heat. Fellow GSF alumni Dina Asher-Smith (Crystal Palace) showed her class by winning her heat in 22.40s, also progressing confidently to the next round.
In the men’s 400m hurdles semi-final, Tyri Donovan (Epsom & Ewell) produced another outstanding performance, setting a second personal best of 48.21s.
