GSF Athlete Jane Asher Inducted into Swim England Hall of Fame

At 94 years young, Morden Leisure Centre’s own Jane Asher has again made waves, this time with her induction into the Swim England Hall of Fame.

Jane, a beloved regular at Morden, is already a legend: a British Masters swimmer who has amassed over 20 gold medals at FINA Masters World Championships, smashed 100 Masters world records, and was previously inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 2006.

She carved out her unique legacy at the centre through her dedication to lifelong fitness, and earlier this year, cemented her status by earning a place in the GLL Sport Foundation. She attended the Foundation’s celebratory event in July, delivering a heartfelt speech about her passion for swimming, a moment that left both staff and fellow athletes inspired.

Now, Swim England has recognised Jane’s extraordinary impact on aquatics by inducting her into their prestigious Hall of Fame. Created in 2019 to celebrate the sport’s 150th anniversary, the Swim England Hall of Fame honours individuals—athletes, coaches, volunteers, whose contributions have made a lasting impact on English aquatics. With only a select few inducted each year, Jane joins the ranks of swimming icons like Tom Daley and Alice Dearing.

Speaking at the centre, Jane reflected: “Swimming has carried me through nearly a century, it keeps me fit, connected, and joyful.” Staff at Morden say her welcoming presence and remarkable achievements continue to inspire members of all ages.

Jane Asher’s journey, an extraordinary testament to passion, resilience, and the power of sport, reaffirms our mission: lifelong activity brings lifelong rewards. Her Hall of Fame induction is more than a personal milestone; it’s a beacon of possibility for every visitor to our pools.
