GSF Athletes Continued Commonwealth Games Success as Medal Tally Reached 42

GLL Sport Foundation (GSF) past and present athletes continued to make their mark at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, adding an incredible 30 further medals during the second half of the competition.

Following our earlier update, GSF-supported athletes went on to secure an additional 12 gold, 9 silver and 9 bronze medals, taking the overall Games tally to an outstanding 42 medals (12 Gold, 16 Silver and 14 Bronze).

Athletes representing England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Jamaica, Ghana and the Isle of Man delivered memorable performances across athletics, swimming, cycling, boxing, judo, basketball, wheelchair basketball, para sport and bowls.

Tuesday 28 July

GSF Alumni and gymnast Ruby Evans got Wales’s medal charge underway with a brilliant gold medal in the Women's Floor Final, while Julie Thomas secured bronze for Wales in the Para Mixed Pairs B2-B3 Bowls competition after winning a tie-break against New Zealand.

Elsewhere, Ellen Barber produced a strong opening day in the heptathlon before eventually finishing fourth overall, while Laviai Nielsen, Justin Davies, Alex Botterill, Imani Lansiquot and Jeremiah Azu all progressed through their athletics rounds.

GSF Alumni Sacha Hickey opened her boxing campaign with victory in the Women's 65kg division, while several GSF swimmers progressed through heats and semi-finals, including Jack Skerry, Cameron Brooker and Luke Greenbank.

Wednesday 29 July

Former GSF athletes Ashley Hamilton and Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye struck gold as Team England defeated Australia 19-17 in the Men's 3x3 Basketball final after overcoming New Zealand in the semi-finals.

Alumni athletes Joy Haizelden and Jade Atkin won against Canada in the Women's Wheelchair Basketball semi-final before defeating Scotland 18-10 in the gold medal match to become Commonwealth champions for Team England.

There was further para athletics success as alumni Aled Davies claimed gold in the Men's Discus F42-44/F61-64, while Bree Cronin secured bronze in the Women's Discus F42-44/F61-64.

In the pool, Luke Greenbank and Edward Mildred helped England to silver in the Men's 4x100m Medley Relay, while Jack Skerry finished fourth in the Men's 100m Backstroke final.

Thursday 30 July

Another GSF alumni, Scott Lincoln added another athletics medal with bronze in the Men's Shot Put, while Zachary Shaw continued his outstanding Games with gold in the Men's T12 100m.

England's netball squad, featuring Halimat Ado, Funmi Fadoju and Olivia Tchine, recorded a thrilling 58-54 victory over South Africa to book their place in the knockout stages.

In the velodrome, Sylvia Misztal piloted England to bronze in the Women's Tandem B Sprint, while Joseph Truman claimed silver in the Men's Team Sprint.

Friday 31 July

GSF athlete Jake Minshull delivered a superb silver medal performance in the Men's 400m Hurdles final.

The boxing ring continued to provide success as Sacha Hickey secured her place in the Women's 65kg final, while Michaela Walsh advanced to the Women's 57kg gold medal bout.
Judo proved to be a successful sport of the Games for GSF athletes. GSF athlete Acelya Toprak won gold in the Women's -57kg category, while Tatum Keen and Lele Nairne both secured bronze medals.

Saturday 1 August

Lina Nielsen helped England secure silver in the Mixed 4x400m Relay, with Laviai Nielsen contributing during the heats.

National Ambassador Michaela Walsh claimed silver in the Women's 57kg boxing competition after reaching the final, while Sacha Hickey completed a remarkable tournament by winning gold in the Women's 65kg division.

Another outstanding day on the judo mat saw GSF alumni Ethan Nairne win gold in the Men's -73kg category. Joshua Green secured bronze in the same weight class, while Ambassador Jamal Petgrave and Rachael Hawkes also won bronze medals. Kelly Petersen-Pollard added another gold medal after triumphing in the Women's -70kg division.

Pilot Anna Whitworth-Hay added a bronze medal in the Women's Tandem B 1000m Time Trial.

Sunday 2 August

The final day of competition brought further cycling success for GSF athletes.

GSF Ambassador Matthew Robertson won gold in the Men's C1-C3 3000m Individual Pursuit after qualifying fastest for the final.

GSF alumni Joseph Truman added silver in the Men's 1000m Time Trial, while Kadeena Cox secured silver in the Women's C4-C5 1000m Time Trial.

Brie Grierson finished the Games with a silver medal after Jamaica were narrowly defeated by New Zealand in the netball final.

Across eleven days of competition, GSF past and present athletes delivered exceptional performances on the Commonwealth stage, producing countless memorable moments.
