Last night our annual GLL Sports Foundation awards evening took place at the Broadway Theatre Catford.
This is the 4th year we have run an awards night having seen the programme grow from 40 recipients in year 1 to 102 this year.
37 supported athletes and their families turned up on the night.
The event started with Nomad Taekwondo doing a display, which thrilled the crowd with their high kicks and control, narrowly missing those in the front row.
Following the presentation the event closed with a Q&A from one of our younger athletes who spoke about the challenges of balancing competing at a national level (and defending their national title) all whilst doing their GSCEs. This talk resonated with a lot of our athletes as 57% of athletes supported in Lewisham are under 21, with 32% being under 16.
Jade Johnson our GSF ambassador made a brief appearance at the start to talk to guests and GLL colleagues.
In attendance from Lewisham Council was
- Vince Buchanan Head of Parks, Sport and Leisure
- Neville Graham Sport & Leisure Service Manager
Vince supported Justin with the handing out of the goody bags and certificates
Those in attendance from GLL were
- the Lewisham Management Team, including 2 Assistant Managers
- Hannah Gilmour, Partnership Manager
- Justine Jardine, Chief Officer, Corporate Development (Designate)
- Tony Wallace, Regional Director
- Steve Hannen, Head of Service

- Pauline Thomas, Customer Service Centre Manager - Woolwich

We had lot's of positive feedback from parents and athletes as to the benefits of the memebrship and how GSF has supported them progress in their sport.
