Tom has been supported by SportsAid previously, and he continues to be supported by them, partnered with the GLL Sport Foundation. Tom applied to study Engineering at Loughborough University where he hopes to further his swimming career under the guidance of the GB coaches.
Last year Tom competed in the 2015 European Junior Open Water Championships in Tenero, Switzerland where he was part of the 3 swimmer team event where the team finished in 4th place, just 11 seconds off a medal. You can view the results here.
“The GLL Sport Foundation has helped cover the high costs associated with competing at a high level, such as fuel costs to training and numerous hotel nights spent during competitions. It has also allowed me to access a wider range of training sessions in both the pool and gym helping me train for my longer distance events.”
Recently Tom has competed in several open water races, this including a weeks training/racing in Mallorca for the 2016 Best Fest Open Water Festival as part of the England Talent Development programme. He raced the 1500m, 4.5km and 10km finishing in 2nd, 3rd and 1st junior male respectively. Tom also competed in the 5km Great East Swim which acted as the selection race for the 2016 World Junior Open Water Championships. He finished 1st in his age group meaning he was selected to represent GBR for the 3rd year in a row.
Tom’s goals for this year are:
a) To improve on his previous World Junior placement (10th) at this year’s competition with the ultimate goal of getting a top 3 finish.
b) To become the National Champion in the 5km Open Water
c) Have a strong performace in the 2016 European Junior Open Water Championships aiming for a medal
We are very proud to continue supporting Tom and wish him the best of luck for his future swimming.
