William Tan is a Taekwondo athlete supported by the GLL Sport Foundation from Cambridge. William has been competing in Taekwondo since the age of 7, and has been a keen competitor for four years now. He is part of the England National Squad as a junior and aspires to make it into the senior team.
On Saturday William competed in the 11th Open World Taekwondo Championships and came 2nd in the Junior Boys Black belt category winning a silver medal. The category had around 80 competitors including competitors from Argentina, the US, Russia and Australia.
Also competing the day was William’s 10 year old brother, Winston Tan, who came 3rd overall in his Children Boys Red belt category winning a bronze medal. A very successful day for the Tan family!
The brothers had been training for the event for more than six months, travelling to Norfolk to train with the Anglia Academy of Taekwondo led by Master Tod Wurr.
This was in addition to the support from their dad, KT Tan, who has also competed in Taekwondo events. Cambridge News also wrote an article to celebrate William’s success – http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/william-tan-and-brother-winston-win-medals-at-taekwondo-world-championships/story-29564918-detail/story.html
We are very proud to be supporting William and wish him all the best for future competitions.
